Hormones are like a symphony. All of them interact. So, when one gets out of whack, others quickly follow. If there is one hormone kink in your system your body will not function at an optimal level. So if you want to lose weight and get access to your absolute very best self... Balancing your hormones must be your first priority. All of the steps listed below work in harmony as a team. Do your very best to apply each one of them as quickly as possible.

What Causes Hormone Imbalances?

STEP #1: Get Exercise & Nutrition On The Same Page

THE COMPLETE APPROACH

THIS CANNOT BE OVERSTATED: You must take a complete approach and align both your exercise and nutrition with your weight loss goals at the same time. The diet only approach is a hormone massacre for weight loss and will not work. At the same time, the "Eat Less, Move More" philosophy is another outdated philosophy that creates a hormone disaster for weight loss. The challenge most people have is that their exercise & nutrition philosophies are often very different from one another and never on the same page. 

For Example: The nutrition advice may be to drastically cut calories and carbs, and do fasting while the exercise advice may be to increase cardio length and intensity every day. These philosophies are not on the same page. This is the outdated "eat less, move more" mentality from the old weight loss world. THIS WILL CREATE SEVERE LONG TERM HORMONE IMBALANCES. Whats really confusing about this is that there almost always is some quick drop on the scale. So most people think that if the scale is going down then what they're doing must be right, so just do more of it. WRONG! The quick drop on the scale never lasts. The worse part is that it creates unbreakable weight loss plateaus and struggles because the hormones are now all out of whack. 

THREE THINGS YOU MUST AVOID: 

1. The diet only incomplete approach. This is a hormone nightmare for those desiring REAL weight loss success. Also, the diet only approach creates the "skinny-fat" phenomenon where your body is loose and jiggly, instead of firm and toned. 

2. The "Eat Less, Move More" mentality. This is about calorie counting. This is the old weight loss world. Real weight loss success is not quite as simple as just count calories. The new weight loss world is all about 'Hormone Balance" and is health based not weight loss based. Its about SMART EXERCISE AND SMART NUTRITION (I will show you both). 

3. Crashing Weight Loss Philosophies: Taking exercise advice from one place and nutrition advice from another place is a recipe for struggle and failure. This is a precursor for massive hormone imbalance. Again, make sure your exercise and nutrition strategies are in alignment.

With that being said... your goal is to align your nutrition and exercise strategies together in order for your weight loss hormones to work correctly. In just a moment, I'm going to show you exactly how to do that.

Lets Talk Exercise

The First Thing You Must Do:

ELIMINATE ALL LONG, SLOW AND INTENSE CARDIO WORKOUTS: Making cardio the “main thing” is the biggest mistake in weight loss. Long and extended hard cardio workouts create several hormone imbalances by stimulating cortisol production, fatiguing your adrenals, AND killing your thyroid function

This CARDIO DONE WRONG actually causes weight gain and creates long term unbreakable, stubborn weight loss plateaus.

The old weight loss world has brainwashed everyone into thinking "just move more and move longer" and you will reach your weight loss goal. WRONG! It actually sabotages everything.

Move more, move longer is not the answer to REAL weight loss success. Doing the right things is not the same thing as doing things right. DON'T BE MISLEAD BY THE OLD WEIGHT LOSS WORLD MENTALITY. 

In just a few moments I will show you the SMART way to exercise for REAL weight loss success. 

REASON #1: The Wrong Cardio Kills Your Thyroid

Your Thyroid controls your metabolism.

However, too much cardio (like long, slow or intense cardio) creates to much STRESS on the body and depletes your Thyroid function causing you to get stuck and gain weight. A sluggish Thyroid will slow your metabolism, burn less calories and make it near impossible to ever lose weight. PLUS, you will always feel fatigued.

That’s why you need to know how to exercise in the right way to avoid this from happening. More on that in a second. 

But first… if you want to save your thyroid so that it keeps your metabolism happily burning through fat 24/7, then all the long slow & long intense cardio has got to go.

REASON #2: The Wrong Cardio Creates Massive Fat-Storing-Stress Hormones

Doing cardio wrong increases cortisol, your body's major stress hormone. Not only is too much cortisol undesirable for better overall health… It also sabotages your weight loss efforts because high cortisol levels destroys your muscle (eats it aways for fuel purposes) and forces your body to store belly fat.

This is the last thing you want because muscle is the key to a fast metabolism. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism. 

The more muscle you lose, the more your metabolic fire dwindles away and the tougher it is for you to get unstuck and lose that stubborn weight.

But that’s not all…

Chronically high levels of cortisol also hurt your Thyroid gland! This can lead to hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid), which again results in the slowing of your metabolic rate, which literally STOPS any possibility of losing weight.

Check this out:

High cortisol levels and a sluggish Thyroid also creates the "Skinny-Fat Phenomenon" (mentioned above) where you lose some weight in the beginning but your body is still loose and jiggly instead of firm and toned. This is not what you want. :)

As you’re starting to see, your metabolism is a major factor in your ability to lose stubborn fat for good. And since your muscle largely determines your metabolism, you want the hormones that support your muscle to be intact, right?

One of the most important muscle-preserving hormones is growth hormone. This is the hormone that is released during deep sleep and during certain types of exercise. It is largely responsible for ALL the growth, repair, and maintenance for your body.

Long slow, long intense  duration cardio workouts decrease growth hormone, which further compromises your muscle and metabolism.

As you’ve now seen, the reason cardio is NOT helping you lose weight (and more importantly, keeping it off) is because of the negative impact it has on your metabolism and your precious fat-burning hormones.

Not only that, it’s high-stress load on your body is brewing a dangerous cocktail that is making you look and feel older than you really are.

The cause of stubborn fat accumulation is due to hormonal changes in your body that occur as you get older and that are only made exponentially worse by lots of cardio.

Add Interval Training Workouts 3-5 x Week.

There are two types if interval training workouts: 

Strength Interval: Is a series of 8-10 different exercises done with or without weights one after an other in a circuit. The circuit is repeated 2-4 x. Total workout time is 20-30 minutes max. This can be done at home or at the gym.

Cardio Interval: Is a circuit of fast and intense cardio followed by active rest. Each circuit is 3 min. The "fast / intense cardio" is1 min in length and "Active Rest" ( still moving but very slowly in order to lower heart rate) is for 2 min in length. This can be as simple as walking / jog / run out side or it can be done on a treadmill, bike, stairs, or elliptical machine. 

Interval Training Workouts are higher intensity workouts ( both strength & cardio) done in a very short condensed period of time. The goal is here is to stimulate the right hormones, restore balance, build muscle, and train your body to burn fat more quickly. These are usually 20 min/max workouts. 

Interval training workouts are essential for Blood Sugar Stabilization and hormone balancing. The key here is that it builds muscle, burns off sugar, and stimulate fat loss production. 

IMPORTANT: As with every situation, every person has a different level of health & fitness and or limitations. Sometimes, depending on health needs, it is necessary to add very short and light cardio to your workout plan. If done properly, it will not interfere with hormone balance.

Too many carbs per meal, no carbs per meal, too many calories per meal, and or eating carbs or protein by themselves creates unstable blood sugar problems. This results in massive cravings and drops in energy and forces the body into “fat storing mode”.

The key is a "Balanced Portion" at every meal. Think of a baby. A baby nurses every 2-4 hours, several times per day. The mothers breast milk is the perfect balance of protein, fat, and carb. THIS IS THE NATURAL WAY THE BODY IS SUPPOSED TO EAT.

The most important thing to do is

1. Eat a balanced portion of Protein, Fat, and Carbs with every meal.

You cannot find hunger to lose weight by looking at the small picture. How many pounds will the scale go down, how many inches will I lose, how far will my body fat % drop, how many clothes sizes will I drop, and how long before I am bathing suit worthy etc. NEVER, YES NEVER, creates real hunger etc. This kind of focus will not sustain the hunger for REAL weight loss success.  

Hunger is found when you you look at the big picture. Hunger is all the things that improve in your life of your weight loss success. Losing weight is a springboard for massive progress and momentum in every area of your life. When you get access to your best thats when your life goes to a whole new level. 

STEP 2: Own The Morning

In the first 2 hours of their day, most people ruin their entire opportunity for massive daily progress and momentum. Their morning routine is destroying them. Instead of framing the day for intention, power, confidence, and success, they become reactive slaves. 

Here's what most people do in the morning: 

1. Rollover and check phone, placed by their bed in order to ruin sleep
2. Check email, framing the day by reacting to other false emergencies and needs.
3. Suck down as much coffee as possible, skipping over healthy nutrition habits. 
4. Hurry to get themselves together in order to hurriedly get somewhere
5. Start working based on what feels easy or whats in the inbox
This is a travesty. The inbox is nothing more than a convenient system for organizing other peoples agenda. Yet, 80 % of cell phone users jump into their email upon wakening and thus lose all hope of having a proactive day vs a reactive one. 

The first 2 hours of the morning is where you win the weight loss game. For example, This would be your exercise time, meal prepping time, organizing your highest priorities and goals for the day, 15 min power reading for motivation, reflection and gratitude, and a healthy complete breakfast to have "ROCKIN" day.

STEP 3: Know Your 5 Moves

You've heard the 80/20Success Rule, right? It means that 20% of the things you do get 80% of the results in your life. This is a helpful rule to apply to anything you want to achieve... Especially your weight loss goal. 

Using this concept... Here are a few questions that will really help you achieve your weight loss goal: What moves the needle most? Where does the greatest long-term weight loss impact come from? What are the time wasters? What is a lot of activity but gets no real progress? Where do you need to focus most?

Answer these questions and then breakdown your weight loss success into 5 major moves. What are the 5 Moves that will move your success needle the most every day. Everything else is just a distraction and needs to be avoided or delegated.

Enjoying the process, instead of complaining, makes your mind want to do it agin tomorrow. More motivations means more achievement.

If its not on your calendar, your weight loss goal is dead. Your calendar reveals who you really are and what you really want in life.

All of these things need to be on your calendar. Your weight loss goal achievement date, a daily / weekly habit list, a daily priority list, a monthly 30 day goal list., a weekly and monthly progress review and a list of 10 questions that you ask yourself every 30 days to assess your focus and progress.

STEP 6: Get A Coach

You can only achieve so much by yourself.  The best advice for success in any area of life is at the very start of any NEW attempt at a new effort, you need a coach. Hire someone to coach you. ALWAYS. Right at the beginning of any big effort. Yes, right at the beginning. 

Almost all acceleration is lost in the beginning of any new activity. A coach shortens your start time and learning curve. You absolutely, without questions, need someone who knows the way, who doesn't accept excuses, who challenges you to be your best, who asks great questions, and REALLY cares if you win and enjoy life. When you have a coach who can give you weekly direction and feedback, then you will be 100x more motivated and successful.

STEP 7: Quickly Fix The Problem

If you get stuck,  find yourself retreating, not making progress, and sabotaging yourself... then you need to Fix Whats Getting In Your Way. 

The #1 cause of people getting stuck and sabotaging their weight loss success is their story. Do you have a story of why you can't make progress and achieve your weight loss goal? Get rid of that story. Create a new story of why you will succeed and will find a way to make happen no matter what. 

If you are doing things that are distracting and adding no value, motivation, and excitement for making weight loss progress, quit them. Immediately. No more hanging on to what's safe. No more allowing whats's not right in your life. Those things prevent good things from happening. They prevent you from achieving and succeeding. 

Stop saying yes, and start saying no. Don't take on more than you can handle. Taking care of your body and "Rockin" your health requires some time. Taking on too many things is Kryptonite for high achievers.. it will be for you too. If you want to move ahead and create massive progress...  drop the other things that compete for your focus and kill your time. Focus. Minimize. Just quit everything that is not moving you forward. 

As important as it is to get rid of all the negative and broken thinking, you may also need to leave friendships that are poisonous and clearly wrong  for the next level of excitement, progress, and achievement.

Until you clear the debris and distractions from your life, the universe cannot recognize the white space available in your life for extraordinary things to happen.

STEP 8: Obsess On 4 Things

Achieving REAL weight loss success requires a bit of obsession.

These are the 4 things I would like to you obsess about.

ENERGY: The most important game in high level achievement is managing your energy physically, mentally and spiritually. If you have or create extraordinary energy everything is possible. Be obsessive about your 7-8 hours of sleep, your healthy eating and nutrition routines, your mediation and recovery, your exercise program, the energy from your social circle, the energy from dreaming the best things into your life.

FOCUS: Be compulsive about removing distraction from your life. Spring clean your entire life. Get rid of unnecessary magazine subscriptions, those accounts you no longer use online; unsubscribe from all that retail crap, those dumb TV shows you watch just because you recorded them. Strip distractions from all corners of your life and you will discovers 10x more progress in achieving your weight loss goal. 

HABITS: Be disciplined about your daily and weekly habits. The entire weight loss journey is determined by how well you set up positive habits that make you feel alive, passionate, confident, motivated, and driven. What habits are making you a better, more confident person? What habits are ruining your health, your focus or growth? Be crystal clear of your rituals of focus, thinking and behaving.

Acquire more knowledge and skills, and increase your confidence and belief in you.
